Macular Health Risk Assessment
Calculate your personalized retina risk score using the same clinical frameworks trusted by ophthalmologists.
Based on the Adapted STARS Protocol (Simplified Théa AMD Risk-Assessment Scale).
This tool is for educational screening only and is not a medical diagnosis.
Methodology: The Macular Health Risk Engine
Clinical Foundation
This assessment is strictly derived from the STARS (Simplified Théa AMD Risk-Assessment Scale) protocol, a validated screening instrument developed to stratify risk for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) in the general population. The questionnaire utilizes the specific 13-point risk factor profile validated in large-scale epidemiologic cohorts (Italian n=12,639; French n=6,897).
Scoring Logic & Adaptation
The original STARS validation study utilizes a proprietary multivariate logistic regression algorithm. Because the exact regression coefficients are not open-source, Aetopia Health utilizes an Adapted Weighted Point Matrix. We have translated the published odds ratios (OR) into a standardized integer-based scoring system to preserve the relative magnitude of risk factors (e.g., weighting smoking significantly heavier than eye color) without claiming to replicate the proprietary internal calculation. This allows for transparent, educational risk stratification.
Intended Use
This algorithm is designed for educational risk stratification. It identifies individuals who statistically match the profile of high-risk cohorts in medical literature. It is not a diagnostic device and does not replace a dilated fundus examination.
