Moist heat is the standard first-line approach for meibomian gland dysfunction and evaporative dry eye. Sustained warmth softens the meibum in the eyelid glands so the oils can flow again and stabilize the tear film. What matters most is consistency — roughly 10–20 minutes, twice daily, done regularly rather than occasionally.

The silica bead filling draws moisture from the surrounding air and releases it as gentle, even moist heat when microwaved, rather than the dry surface heat of a rice sock or a warm washcloth that cools within two minutes.
